Over the last three decades, Mr. Bondor has repeatedly vindicated his clients’ interests in some of the largest intellectual property disputes in recent times. Not only has he delivered litigation results through trial and pre-trial victories, but he has also successfully secured billions of dollars in licensing revenues for both small and large clients, in a wide variety of industries, including (in particular) computer processors and memory, networking, pharmaceuticals, and medical devices.
Mr. Bondor’s representative successes include:
- a recent multi-billion dollar victory defending a major computer processor manufacturer against infringement claims related to microprocessor and memory system design
- an across-the-board win in the International Trade Commission, including not only an exclusion order, but also a cease-and-desist order, and a 100% bond during review
- for a smaller medical device manufacturer, an enormously favorable courthouse-steps patent infringement resolution against a medical device industry giant
- for a major pharmaceutical firm, a multi-billion dollar pre-trial settlement
- for a medical device manufacturer, a jury trial victory yieldiing a judgment of more than $42 million, plus enhanced damages, pre-judgment interest, and a 32% on-going royalty covering all post-trial sales of infringing devices
- a record-setting $1.54 billion jury verdict on behalf of Lucent Technologies against software giant Microsoft Corporation—a result widely reported at the time as the largest patent jury verdict in history. In another patent infringement jury trial, also on behalf of Lucent Technologies against Microsoft, Mr. Bondor and others from Desmarais LLP won a favorable jury verdict and judgment totaling $512 million, at the time one of the top five largest patent verdicts in history.
Mr. Bondor has also led successful trial teams in trials at the International Trade Commission, in international arbitrations under the ICC and domestic arbitrations under the AAA, and has also successfully represented clients pressing trade secret and misappropriation claims (as well as those resisting such claims) in various state and federal courts.
Mr. Bondor's trial and litigation experience spans a wide range of industries, including medical devices (particularly those related to interventional cardiology, advanced wound treatment, and RF ablation technology), semiconductor manufacturing, computer processor and memory design, voice-over-IP technology, computer software (including search engine technology, software for the optimization of cellular telephone networks, web-related software, and software for automated control systems), as well as other technologies ranging from battery systems for hybrid electric vehicles to offset printing presses and body armor.
In addition to his trial work in patent infringement disputes, Mr. Bondor has extensive litigation experience in unfair competition, trade secret, trademark, design patent, and technology-related antitrust matters. Mr. Bondor also has considerable experience with multinational patent litigation, particularly in Western Europe. He has worked closely with European counsel (including in the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, and other countries), both prosecuting and defending actions related to patent infringement and validity. Mr. Bondor has participated in trials before the district and appeal courts of the Netherlands, proceedings before the German Landgerichte (German regional courts), the Bundespatentgericht (the German Federal Patent Court), the Bundesgerichthof (the German Supreme Court), as well as trial before the High Court and Court of Appeal in London.
Immediately after law school, Mr. Bondor served as a law clerk to the Honorable Louis L. Stanton in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York. His first-hand experience of federal litigation from the court's perspective, and especially his participation in the court's decision-making process, furnished him with a unique perspective on federal litigation that continues to influence his interactions with judges and judicial staff.
