William Yau’s practice focuses on intellectual property and technology-related litigation, including patent litigation. His experience includes preparing contentions, conducting discovery, writing briefs, and performing document review in cases involving cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, computer software, and biotechnology.

Before joining Desmarais LLP, Mr. Yau worked at the Washtenaw County Trial Court in Ann Arbor, Michigan, as a judicial intern for the Hon. Darlene A. O’Brien, where he dealt with matters related to the court’s civil and criminal docket. During law school, he also served as an executive editor of the Michigan Journal of International Law—a law journal that publishes articles and book reviews from leading scholars and practitioners in international law—and participated in the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition. Prior to beginning his legal career, Mr. Yau was engaged in neuroscience research at the University of Michigan, studying novel genes responsible for regulating the development and function of neural circuits.
