The Patent Trial and Appeal Board ruled in favor of Desmarais LLP client Unified Patents in an appeal of an ex parte reexamination. That reexamination concerned a patent that covers methods for coding and decoding moving picture data.
The PTAB’s ruling on the appeal, issued on March 31, 2023, affirmed the examiner’s rejection of both claims Unified Patents had challenged. Unified Patents filed its reexamination request in December 2020 against IP Bridge’s video data patent (No. 7,515,635 B2). Following the review process, the examiner rejected both challenged claims as unpatentable in November 2021. That ruling was recently affirmed. This victory follows two other wins Desmarais LLP attorneys secured relating to inter partes review of other patents that concerned video coding technology.
The Desmarais LLP team representing Unified Patents included of counsel Theodoros Konstantakopoulos and associate Christian Dorman.
