The New York Law Journal has named Desmarais LLP as the Intellectual Property Litigation Department of the Year and selected partner Tamir Packin as a Rising Star.
The awards recognize the firm’s string of recent courtroom victories. Desmarais LLP won a $272.5 million jury verdict, plus $100 million in enhanced damages, for Ravgen’s prenatal genetic testing patents against Labcorp. The firm also defeated 10 inter partes review challenges to Ravgen’s patents before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board. Additionally, Desmarais LLP won a full defense verdict for Cisco against a $371 million patent infringement lawsuit brought by Egenera. The firm also secured a $1.25 billion settlement, plus royalties, for ViiV Healthcare and Shionogi & Co. to end all global litigation in a pharmaceutical patent lawsuit. Desmarais LLP also earned a summary judgment victory for Intel that eliminated all claims brought by XMTT Inc. in litigation that implicated an alleged multi-billion-dollar patent infringement. Packin’s Rising Star award highlights his role as co-lead trial counsel for Cisco, along with founding partner John Desmarais, in the firm’s victory against Egenera in August 2022.
