John M. Desmarais

The LMG Life Sciences Americas Awards has announced John Desmarais, founding partner of Desmarais LLP, as its winner of the General Patent Litigator of the Year (New York) Award. Desmarais was shortlisted among eight attorneys for the recognition, and the 2022 Americas Awards winners were made public on September 9, 2022.
 
During the last 12 months, Desmarais has led numerous important life sciences patent infringement matters. These include securing a $1.25 billion settlement plus royalties for clients ViiV Healthcare and Shionogi & Co. in a global pharmaceutical drug case, handling a series of patent infringement litigations related to non-invasive prenatal genetic testing, defending a client in litigation related to robotic-assisted surgery patents, and overseeing patent infringement litigation related to the treatment of multiple sclerosis.
 
The 10th annual Americas Awards recognized the industry’s leading in-house and private practitioner attorneys handling life sciences matters in North America. The 2022 Americas Awards covered four primary practice areas related to life sciences – regulatory, financial and corporate, intellectual property, and litigation. The award selection process included a rigorous data gathering and review process that included assessing firm submissions, practitioner interviews, client feedback, and independent research.
